Superior pigments of unsurpassed light-fastness and water-soluble binders.

What does Polychromos mean?

Polychromos is an Ancient Greek word meaning "many coloured".  It is a protected  trade mark of Faber-Castell.

How many pencils are in the Polychromos and Albrecht Durer mahogany-stained wood cases?

100 pencils are included in the wood cases.

Is the mahogany-stained wood case available to purchase empty?

Cases are no longer mahogany, they are a darker shade called 'wenge'.

If there are 120 Polychromos and Albrecht Durer colours available, why does the wood case only hold 100 pencils?

There are 120 colours in the Polychromos Pencil and 120 Albrecht Durer range. There are no empty cases available for purchase, unless from time to time special cases are released. The 20 extra colours were introduced about 5 years ago so are no longer 'new'.

Can I sharpen my PITT Pastel Pencils with a sharpener?

Yes. Unlike other pencils on the market, Faber-Castell PITT Pastel Pencils can be sharpened with a sharpening knife or a hand held sharpener.  We recommend using item number FC185710 Twin Metal Sharpener. The angle and the sharpness of the blade is a very important factor when sharpening pencils correctly.

Are any of the Art and Graphic materials toxic?

No. ALL of the Faber-Castell materials are NON-toxic.

Why is it recommended not to use the Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens on fabric?

The PITT Artist Pens are comprised of India Inks which are permanent and light-fast.  The permanency and light-fastness are tested on paper.  They are not tested on fabrics.  If the pen is used on fabric it should be displayed as an art piece and not washed.  Due to the nature of fabrics washing may cause the inks to fade.
